Practical prevention, safe reporting, and looking out for each other.
Prevention
- Light the dark spots: shared outdoor lighting is the cheapest deterrent a street can buy.
- Vary routines when possible; keep valuables out of sight in vehicles.
- Photograph serial numbers of phones, TVs and generators.
Reporting safely
- Emergencies: call the police first, then report on the platform so neighbours are aware.
- Non-urgent reports can be anonymous — your identity is never attached.
- Describe people by clothing and direction of travel; never attempt a confrontation.
Together
- Join your community watch group and agree simple signals with neighbours.
- Check on homes of travelling neighbours.
