Who we are

Who can use it

You must be at least 13. If you are under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission. You can read alerts without an account.

Your account

One person per account. You sign in with Google, Facebook or Apple; we never see a password. Keep your phone number accurate, because an agency handling your report may need to call you. You are responsible for what is done with your account.

Acceptable use

• Report only what you reasonably believe to be true. Deliberately false or fake emergency reports endanger lives and lead to suspension and, where applicable, referral to authorities.
• Do not harass, threaten or abuse other members, responders or agencies, in any part of the app: reports, comments, messages, community posts, chats or stories.
• Respect the visibility level of reports you can access; do not republish restricted operational information.
• Automated or bulk collection of platform data (scraping, mirroring, harvesting) is prohibited outside the institutional Data API, which gives licensed, anonymised access with rate limits and privacy protections.

What you post

You keep ownership of your reports, photos, videos, voice notes, comments, messages and posts. You give us permission to store them, show them in the app to the people your choices allow, translate them, and share reports with the agencies responsible for handling them. When you delete your account, published safety reports stay as public-safety history, without your name.

Reports & verification

Reports may be checked automatically, confirmed by the community and reviewed by agencies. Based on what a report says and where, the platform decides automatically whether it becomes an alert to people nearby, counts anonymously in the area's figures, or goes only to the agency. Publication does not guarantee accuracy; verification labels show the review that took place. The platform may resolve, archive, reject, or mark reports as duplicates or false.

Moderation and enforcement

An automated moderator acts on flagged content and suspicious reports within strict limits (hiding content, restricting, warning); every action is logged, and staff can review, undo or escalate it. Violations lead to progressive sanctions (warning, temporary suspension, ban). You can appeal any decision at hello@alertcommunities.org. We may suspend accounts that put people at risk.

Location, warnings and SafeNet

Warnings while you walk or drive, SafeNet sharing and help requests depend on your phone, its settings, its signal and the reports available; they can arrive late or not at all. Never handle your phone while driving. Only add people to your SafeNet who have agreed to it; anyone can stop sharing at any time.

Ada, the assistant

Ada's answers come from the platform's information and AI services and can be wrong or incomplete. They are not professional, medical or legal advice. In an emergency, call the emergency number first.

Plans and payments

Alerts are free. Paid plans (for example Guardian) are bought on alertcommunities.org and charged through Paystack; the apps take no payments. Each purchase is a one-time payment for a month or a year. It does not renew by itself: when the period ends, the account returns to the free plan until you buy again. All payments are final and are not refunded.

Liability

The platform assists emergency communication but does not replace emergency services and cannot guarantee alert delivery, timeliness or accuracy. In life-threatening situations always call the appropriate emergency number first (in Ghana: 112). To the maximum extent permitted by law, the platform is provided "as is" without warranties.

Changes

When these terms change in a way that matters, we say so in the app before the change takes effect. Using the app after that means you accept the new terms.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ghana.
