SafeNet for the people you watch over

A child's phone, grandma, the car — who sees what, consent first, and the notification that never hides.

What SafeNet is

SafeNet is the family side of AlertCommunities: the people and things you watch over, and the people who watch over you. It is built consent first — the person you add knows, agrees, sees exactly what you see about them, and can end it any time. It is a safety net, not surveillance.

The pieces

  • A subject is someone or something you watch: a person with the app on their phone, an asset like a car or a tracker, or a device you pair with a QR code.
  • A share is what one person lets another see: live location, arrivals only, or SOS only. Shares can expire and can be revoked — both sides are told.
  • A zone is a place with hours: home, school 07:00–15:30. Leaving or arriving raises an alert to whoever has that scope.
  • SOS is the button on the subject's phone. It goes to every guardian at once, with the location, and keeps going until someone acknowledges it.

A good family setup

  1. Add each child as a subject and install the app on their phone; accept the invitation there.
  2. Two zones each: home, and school with school hours.
  3. Share with the other parent: live location + SOS, no expiry.
  4. Grandparents: arrivals + SOS only. They want to know the child got home, not to watch a dot.
  5. Run a drill: press SOS once, together, so everyone knows what the alert looks and sounds like.

When an alert fires

Call first. Most zone alerts are a missed bus. If the person is unreachable and inside a danger area on the map, use Lost person on their card — it opens a help request that responders and nearby volunteers can see — and call the emergency number.

The notification that never hides

SafeNet alerts are urgent: they ride through silent mode and stay on screen until acknowledged. That is deliberate — set them up on a phone you will hear.
