The services, and what to do for each

Flood, fire, crime, waste, weather and SafeNet — what each one covers, the first things to do, and what to report.

Six services, one habit

Each service has its own colour, its own agencies and its own kind of report. The habit is the same for all of them: get safe, call, then report — the report is how everyone else nearby learns in time.

💧 Flood

Rising water in streets, drains and rivers. Do: move to higher ground early; switch off electricity at the mains if water enters the building; never walk or drive through moving water — 15 cm can take an adult off their feet and 60 cm floats a car. Report: where the water is, how deep against a fixed thing (a kerb, a tyre, a doorstep), whether it is rising. A photo of the water line beats a paragraph.

🔥 Fire

Buildings, markets, bush, vehicles. Do: get everyone out before anything else; crawl low under smoke; feel doors with the back of the hand; once out, stay out and count heads. Never pour water on burning oil or a live electrical fire. Report: what is burning, whether people are inside, which way the wind pushes it.

🛡️ Crime

Theft, assault, robbery, missing persons, suspicious activity. Do: never confront; get to a lit, busy place; note clothing, direction of travel, a vehicle's colour and plate. Report: you can report anonymously — your name is never attached. Emergencies go to the police first; the report warns the neighbours.

♻️ Waste

Choked gutters, illegal dumping, burning refuse, overflowing collection points. This is the prevention service: a blocked drain today is the flood in your room next season. Report: the spot and a photo; community issue pages collect these so the assembly acts on clusters, not single complaints.

⛅ Weather

Storm warnings, extreme heat, strong winds, dust. Do: secure roofing sheets and loose signage before a storm; drink water and stay in shade through a heat warning; keep children out of open water after heavy rain. Report: damage as it happens — fallen poles, roofs, trees on roads.

🧡 SafeNet

Not an incident service — a family one. It watches over the people and things you choose: a child's phone, an elderly parent, the car. Alerts come from them (an SOS, leaving a safe zone, a device going quiet), not from the map. Its own lesson is number 8.

The pattern to remember

| | Get safe | Call | Report | |---|---|---|---| | Flood | high ground, mains off | emergency line | depth against a fixed object, rising? | | Fire | everyone out, stay out | fire service | what burns, anyone inside | | Crime | lit, busy place; no confrontation | police | description, direction, plate — anonymous is fine | | Waste | — | — | spot + photo, so it clusters | | Weather | secure loose things, shade, water | — | damage as it happens |
